The Battle of Five Pebbles
The ancient battle is still a sore subject among the Dwarven clans of the Crestheart Mountains. It was the culmination of a decades long war of sucession amongst the 5 mountain clans after the death of the last King of the mountain, and the 5 diverse claimaints to the throne give the battle its name-as opposed to the mountain (of strength, authority, and power) that the King represents, these 5 princes were mere pebbles. The battle resulted in numerous casualties on all sides. Depleted, and needing to face their exterior enemies, the dwarves decided to finally end their civil war. The ensuing peace treaty meetings and negotiations evolved into the current Dwarven Council, which allows for the clan elders to meet and plan as one entity, ensuring a degree of unity amongst the clans. The head of the council is the King of the Mountain Dwarves, but the position is no longer heriditary. The dwarves are extraordinarily proud of this arrangement, as they see their current system of “advanced and enlightened” government as superior to the systems relied upon by other races.
